Abstract

The phenomenological characteristics of the psychotic process are illustrated by a case discussion of a 15-year-old adolescent boy who suffered from a first psychotic episode and was admitted to a children’s psychiatric hospital. The differential diagnostic questions raised important issues about the nature of psychopathology in a first episode of psychosis. It is extremely important to integrate biological, environmental, and psychological aspects in clinical evaluations in order to develop comprehensive psychiatric formulations.
